Inspiring Employee

Kevin Oldman began work at Denes Community Sports Centre at 18, as a member of the evening reception staff. But that's just the beginning...

In under two years he has progressed to become a full time member of staff at the Denes High School, fulfilling the role of deputy sports centre manager. His entrepreneurial spirit was recognised by the Lowestoft Journal and the Make Your Mark in Lowestoft campaign, who awarded him a Bright Sparks Award in January 2007.

In the past two years Kevin has been instrumental in introducing new sports to the centre particularly athletics, where he has nurtured links with Waveney Valley Athletics Club and Futsal, the new five-a-side football game championed by the FA.

Within a short space of time he has had a significant positive impact on the Sports Centre, encouraging use by community groups and getting involved with coaching and supervising special needs groups from local schools. He spends time each week with students from The Ashley School helping them gain their Duke of Edinburgh award.

Next month Kevin will continue his development with the final assessments of his Fitness Instructor NVQ Level 2 qualification. This will enable Kevin to complete personal inductions and write fitness programmes at the X-Cess fitness suite at the Denes High School.
