*Tenner is now in its 4th year and is a nationwide competition run between 1st – 31st March to promote enterprise in schools. It is currently an annual competition where school children (5yrs – 18yrs) across the UK are loaned a ten pound note for a month and challenged to make money, make a difference and give back. Once the challenge is over, participants are asked to return their original loan and keep or donate the profit they made. Awards are offered to the student/students who have the biggest profit, deliver the most social impact or the best business idea. Last year the most amount of profit made from a single ten pound note was an impressive £920! This year, it was marketed as Tenner Tycoon and 28,000 school children took part. Visit www.tenner-tycoon.org to find out more.

*Global Entrepreneurship Week (referred to as GEW) began as Enterprise Week in the UK in 2004. This year, the week takes place 14th – 20th November 2011.

In 2008, Enterprise UK (EUK) and the Kauffman Foundation (the world’s largest entrepreneurship foundation based in the US) co-founded the first Global Entrepreneurship Week to encourage thinking of the world as a global marketplace. EUK manages, coordinates and profiles the week in the UK, giving support to all organizations and events that register to take part.

Our partners (the individuals and organisations that run activities during the Week) use Global Entrepreneurship Week as a focus; whether to launch something new, showcase projects and work developed throughout the year, or just to celebrate and raise the profile of entrepreneurship in their locality or sector. It is a truly inspiring week filled with fantastic events, with activities ranging from enterprise competitions to talks from local role models to large scale conferences. In 2010, 104 countries took part, with 2,577 events taking place in the UK. Support from world leaders such as David Cameron and Barack Obama as well as Britain’s top entrepreneurs supporting the week continues to help to ensure that the UK truly remains regarded as being an enterprising nation both at home and abroad. Read about events that took place last year in our Inspiring Stories section of www.gew.org.uk.
